Not So Wordless Wednesday (Patagonia, AZ)

I saw my first Vermilion Flycatcher this week.  I have seen pictures of this little guy, but I never imagined what a brilliant red his feathers would actually be during my first sighting.  When he flies, he looks like a red streak in the sky.  It's a Wow! moment.  As you can see by the photos, I really like watching this guy in action.

  1. Wow he is beautiful! We get the scarlet tanager here in the summer. They are a deep red. They stay high in the trees so the only time I see him is when it is really hot and he comes down to the bird bath.

It looks so nice and warm there! We re having cold rain and wind, but at least it isn't snow like they are getting further north.

    1. The only brightly colored wild bird I have seen is the Northern Cardinal. I was very excited over seeing this one. Maybe some day I will see the Scarlet Tanager.
We had an unusually warm winter. Stay warm and dry!

  2. Lucky you! What a beauty! I've only ever see the scarlet tanager that Patty mentions once and certainly never the vermilion flycatcher. Saw a Baltimore oriole a couple of times, which was a thrill.

  5. That's a new one to me. I love that eye stripe. Flycatchers over here are not so dramatically colored. Your pictures are just super!
