In The Quilting Zone (Sutherlin, OR)

Yep, I have been in the quilting zone for the past few days.  I'm taking advantage of the foggy weather and getting lots of quilting done.  I found this Sunbonnet Baby Sue pattern in a book almost 20 years ago.  I just love her chubby little belly!  There was no pattern for an Overall Baby Sam, so I made my own.
I had so much fun appliqueing these cuties that I might have to make another one in the future.

For the quilting, I did meandering on the yellow background.  I almost did the white background too, but I think I'll leave it with just an outline around each baby.
I wasn't sure what to do with the snowball quilt.  I thought about doing a snowflake or an echo pattern, but I like curves more than straight line stitching.  I drew different swirl patterns inside each snowball.  I was able to follow my patterns.....most of the time.  This is the first time I have tried following a pattern while free-motion quilting on the sewing machine.  It is a lot easier to do by hand!  That is for sure!
Right now, it looks a little messy.  I'm hoping this will look better once I wash out the ink.
On the Jungle Stars, I did a stitch-in-a-ditch to show off the stars as well as the squares.
And an outline around these two guys.
I have one more top to layer and quilt.  I finished the applique last night.
Next on the list is to make binding for all four quilts.  I need to get them done before we go back to the coast.  There is a good chance we will be on a limited power source and binding takes a lot of ironing.
Plus with all this cold weather, I'm looking forward to sitting under the quilts while I'm sewing on the binding. Ha!....there is a method to my madness...
Happy Quilting!

Babies, Bears, And So Much More (Benson, AZ)

Travel Day!  We are on our way to the Phoenix/Mesa area.  It will be a new area for us to explore.  Maybe, I'll have some nice photos for my next post.  In the meantime, I posted some photos of my recent quilts.

On The Cutting Board
Cuddly Critters is done!  I'm so happy with the way this one came out.  Such a cute pattern.  I might have to make another one....someday.  This quilt is going to a very special friend.  She and I worked together for many years.  I miss our talks and how the two of us could brainstorm to get projects done.  She and her DH are expecting their first  baby.  I'm so excited for them and I wish them all the best!

I appliqued these Sunbonnet Babies a long time ago.  It is time to get this one done.  I don't know why I decided to do the blocks on-point since I'm not very good with this layout, so I kept putting them away.  On-point quilts have always been a challenge for me.  I don't know why, but the other day I suddenly decided that I could do this.  I pulled out a special ruler just for on-point blocks and read the instructions.
Surprised that it sounded easier than I had previously thought - I decided to give this ruler a try.  I'm happy with the results, but I need to dig through my stash to add a border.  The quilt is only 35 inches wide.  I like to make all my donated quilts at least 40 inches wide.  More to cuddle, right?
Happy Quilting!

Discovering More UFOs! (Concrete, WA)

On The Cutting Board

I finished the Bunny wall hanging.  I decided to do an echo quilt stitch.  This seemed to have straightened out the little ripples.  The kit included the green polka dot fabric for the binding, but I think my golden brown works better.

I made the sleeve a little too long and I almost sewed the end into the binding.  I'll have to be more careful with measuring and make it a little looser.  I'll probably use an old wire clothes hanger so it doesn't bulk up when it is hanging.

Added a little rouge to the bunnies' cheeks and it was done!  All right!  One project done and two dozen UFOs to go...whew!
Project 1
I found the appliqué pattern of Sunbonnet Baby (female) in an old library book.  I wanted a boy to match Sunbonnet Baby, so I designed this little guy below.  I just love their little bellies!

Speaking of unfinished projects, I found two more UFOs in the bin while digging through my stash.  Uh oh!  I forgot I had these.  I really hate forgetting about my projects.
Project 2
Well, I think I might combined these two into one scrappy quilt.

Here's a few more photos from around the area....Enjoy!
